Adele Cries Over Grammy Mic Mishap

The Grammys is considered one of the most prestigious music awards shows in the world. You would probably think that their performances would generally be flawless and basically musical perfection. What happened in the 2016 Grammys was quite the opposite. One of the most anticipated performances by Adele was marred by an unfortunate audio glitch left many fans wanting more of Adele’s tremendous voice. Similar audio glitches happened for Justin Bieber on his performance as well. Some people say that the equipment issues even caused a degradation in her voice causing it to sound pitchy and out of tune.

It turns out that the problem was actually one of the piano microphones. When they had to lift the piano to get it on the raised platform one of the microphones came loose. It fell during the performance which caused it to reverberate directly on the piano strings which created the off tune sound. The audio room had to switch to a backup system but that just caused more glitches further into the performance.

Normally you’d think that Adele being the superstar she is would be able to handle something like a technical difficulty. In reality, her performance was in fact stellar despite the issues that she had. But, Adele is actually very hard on herself. Someone once said, that your worst critic is often yourself and in the case of Adele that is very true. She felt awful that she didn’t get to show her fans the performance that she knew she could give.

When she went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show shortly after her Grammy performance she admitted to Ellen that she cried for an entire day after the incident. She said, “I heard it straight away… and I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze. But I actually felt like it went well. In the room they actually sorted the problem and I’m always a bit pitchy anyways so I wasn’t particularly.. I am! It’s emotion. It’s emotion. When I’m flat and I’m sharp I’m just emotional but it was fine. I wanted to tell everyone straight away because it seemed to be a lot of confusion about what it was. I was embarrassed. I woke up the next morning to people in England being like. We still love you, don’t worry and I was like, I didn’t ask you if you still loved me, but thanks. I was so embarrassed.”

But, in case you thought that Adele was falling into a pit of depression over this, she later said “I cried pretty much all day yesterday. In fairness I would have cried if it went really well as well. If it was a stand out performance I would have cried as well. I always cry.” So Adele is just a big ball of talented emotions and we love her because of that, not in spite of that. If she weren’t so in tune with her emotions, she wouldn’t be able to keep writing the songs that we can all relate to on the deepest emotional level. Cry on, Adele, cry on.
