Just a few days ago Kim Kardashian grabbed everyone’s attention once again with a daring naked selfie. She posted the selfie to Instagram and twitter with the caption “When you’re like I have nothing to wear LOL.” It isn’t clear exactly when the picture was taken since she no longer has the blonde hair that she does in the picture. But, it’s safe to assume it’s after she gave birth to her second child. In that regard, the photo is an impressive feat of shedding baby weight. Remember, this isn’t the first time Kim has posted a nude selfie on social media. During her second pregnancy she silenced all the haters by posing a nude pregnant selfie.
This time however, several celebrities have taken to bash Kim’s photo like Bette Midler, Piers Morgan, and Chloe Grace Moretz. Generally speaking, this photo has had very polarizing reactions from the female empowerment community. All this happening just days before International Women’s Day. But not all celebrities chastised the reality star. Rowan Blanchard, Ariel Winter and Bella Thorne all came to Kim’s defense and praised her for being proud of her body and implored others to respect the decisions that people are free to make.
In response to all the negativity, Kim wrote a post titled “Happy International Women’s Day,” where she defends her body positive attitude. “I never understand why people get so bothered by what other people choose to do with their lives. I don’t do drugs, I hardly drink, I’ve never committed a crime—and yet I’m a bad role model for being proud of my body?… I am empowered by my body. I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world.”
Of course people had something to say about her post. Celebrities like Pink had a very subtle message for Kim, “Shout out to all of the women, across the world, using their brains, their strength, their work ethic, their talent, their ‘magic’ that they were born with, that only they possess. It may not ever bring you as much ‘attention’ or bank notes as using your body, your sex, your tits and asses, but women like you don’t need that kind of ‘attention,’… In the quiet moments, you will feel something deeper than the fleeting excitement resulting from attention, you will feel something called pride and self respect. Keep on resisting the urge to cave. You’ll never have to make silly excuses for yourself.”
When Kim didn’t respond to Pink’s message, Amber Rose, another popular figure known for flaunting her sex appeal defended Kim. “Pink we were all born naked society sexualizes our breast and bodies. If a grown mother of 2 is comfortable with her body and wants to show it off that’s none of ur business or anyone else’s. Now, if u wanna talk to kids and be a mentor to young teens, tell them to go to school and to not use their bodies to get ahead?! I’m all for it!” Amber adds, “But please as a grown woman let another grown woman live as she wishes. That’s our problem! We’re so quick to down each other instead of uplifting!”
It’s hard to say if anyone is right or wrong. There are valid points to all sides and it’s important to remember that all perspectives are just that, individual perspectives. If you have a burning opinion, please share and comment.
